What / Where I Ate - Mang Inasal

Another fast food from the Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) is MANG INASAL.  Continue reading for the history of this fast food restaurant which I find quite unique in the sense that the main food being offered is grilled or locally termed as sinugba / inasal.

HISTORY OF MANG INASAL

It all started with a Vision. Edgar “Injap” Sia, at the age of twenty six, grabbed the opportunity to lease a 250 square meter space at the Robinson’s Mall Carpark-Iloilo in December 2003. It was there that Mang Inasal, Hiligaynon for Mr. Barbeque, was born. Early on, he learned the importance of following your instincts, taking risks, strategizing, negotiating, and motivating yourself and your people. He also knew that the Filipino barbeque quick service restaurant category still had the potential for growth. He started a business that had the potential for nationwide expansion.

The primary reason for Mang Inasal’s success is its wide array of Filipino comfort food, especially Chicken Inasal - with its distinct taste that Pinoys have grown and continue to love. By 2009, only six years after the first branch opened, Mang Inasal had a store network of one hundred stores. Mang Inasal soon drew the attention of Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC), the Philippines’ largest food service company and one of Asia’s most admired companies. JFC acquired 70% controlling share of Mang Inasal in November 2010. Today, Mang Inasal is the leading Pinoy branded outlet in the country, with its strong portfolio of Chicken Inasal, Pork BBQ, Halo Halo, and Palabok.

This trio of condiments is always present in the table of every Mang Inasal branch.  The leftmost bottle contains vinegar, the rightmost is a soy sauce and the middle contains an oily, yellow orange condiment, which I really have not asked the staff of any store as to what this is made of.  Maybe, next time I'll be more inquisitive.  For me, the oil makes the chicken more tasty, despite the oil is close to being bland.  Most of the time, I put the oil on my warm rice though.

 My usual order is from the PABORITO MEALS (PM), primarily because the marinated chicken parts are quite big.  As per Mang Inasal, all PM meals come with a cup of rice, and an option to have unlimited servings of rice.

 Happy to see they have advertising napkin, I took home at least two pieces to add to my collection.

We ordered various coolers / desserts.

 HALO - HALO

Delicious and creamy shaved ice milk concoction topped with red sago, buko pandan jelly, langka, ube halaya, yellow beans, red mongo beans, leche flan, macapuno, banana, ube ice cream and barquillos.

 CREMA DE LECHE

A delightful, creamy concoction of milk and ice, topped with caramelized banana, macapuno and leche flan.

 This is my favorite in Mang Inasal - the TURON ESPESYAL

It is a fried wrapped "Saba" banana with strips of jackfruit and ube halaya.  Served with ube and quezo flavor ice cream! Price and serving is just right. The mix of hot and cold is contradicting but the taste of the "Turon" is yummy, the taste as well of the ice cream is indeed a bonus. I am giving a perfect 10  rating for this dessert.

This is what I wore to our lunch at Mang Inasal.  When I go downtown, I opt for comfy and less dressy outfits.
