Food Bloggers Event at the LORD OF THE WINGS, the Fellowship of the Queens

When I heard of the LORD OF THE WINGS as a name of a restaurant here in Doha, Qatar, I am directly reminded of two familiar things: (1) the famous novel-turned-movie-blockbuster - The Lord of the Rings, and (2) Chicken Wings!  The name of the restaurant employs a clever and witty play of words.  It is both directly attractive and engaging.  Its name and the restaurant's logo arouse a customer's curiosity: what kind of surprise is hidden behind those wings?!

Here in the Middle East, the LORD OF THE WINGS, which offers American cuisine, is known for being the first restaurant that offers a specialized concept in chicken wings and build-your-own burgers.  Originating in Lebanon, it has then branched out to seven other countries, now including Qatar in the list.

Yes, my #2 hunch was right. We were up for the famous and mouthwatering Chicken Wings in town!

Having been blogging about food and food establishments for seven years and writing food reviews (via Zomato) for the last two years, it is but an achievement to be invited to a Food Bloggers Event here in Doha, Qatar, for a Food Tasting of the new set of dishes in the menu of the LORD OF THE WINGS.  The foodie in me was ecstatic!

Taste is a sensorial aspect that is highly subjective and in fact eminently varies from one person to the other. As a food critic, I have learned to further sharpen my keenness in assessing food taste and imparting my thoughts to my readers based on my honest gustatory evaluations and personal, impartial opinions.

And the food bloggers - all ladies, have arrived.
We are now complete for the banquet.

Let the fellowship of the (food) queens, begin!

Here's a look at the central portion of the menu, featuring the FAMOUS CHICKEN WINGS recipes and highlighting the varied levels of spiciness that the customers can challenge their tolerances with chilies.

While waiting for the new dishes from the menu to be served to the bloggers, we were asked for our preferred drinks.  Unanimously, the four of us opted for the ICED TEA.

Beverage Taste Comment and other Comments:
Rather tangy to my liking.  But I guess, one can request for sugar to suit one's  sucrose needs and preference level.
But, when the chicken wings came in, this sour drink became the most suitable refreshment to counter the flavorful, hot and spicy taste of the chicken wings!!!

Moving on, the appetizers were served and the first that came in:
OVERLOADED CHEESE NACHOS

Menu Description
Crisp corn tortilla chips topped with hot cheddar sauce, pico de gallo, jalapeños, black olives, served with salsa guacamole and cream cheese.

Appetizer Taste Comment and other Comments:
Foremost, I love nachos.  The chunks of fresh sliced vegetables and the profusion of molten cheese made the nachos more munching.  The side dips added multiple options for variegated smack on the chips.

The other appetizer served was the LOADED POUTINE.

Menu Description
Poutine topped with bacon bits and sunny-side-up egg

Fast Fact  via Wikipedia - what is Poutine?
Poutine is a Canadian dish originating from the province of Quebec, originally made with French fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy. The dish emerged in the late 1950s in the Centre-du-Québec area.Wikipedia
Main ingredientsFrench fries, gravy, cheese curds

Food Taste Comment and other Comments:
There was a droll of superfluity of what was said to be an appetizer made with just ingredient "bits" (the bacon) and supposed "finger-food" treat.  Abundance was the word.  Taste-wise, it's rich. However, I personally think that the sauce caused the potatoes to adhere too much to each other which made the fries arduous to pick.

Crisp Salad was served together with the appetizers and  one of the newest addition to the salad menu was the ALL NATURAL QUINOA SALAD

Menu Description
Supergrain salad with cherry tomatoes, avocado, cranberry, cucumber, red onion and mint in a subtle lemon, honey, mustard dressing. Healthy never tasted that good!

Fast Fact on Quinoa via the Wikipedia:
Quinoa is a flowering plant in the amaranth family. It is a herbaceous annual plant grown as a grain crop primarily for its edible seeds. Because it is not a grass, it is a pseudocereal rather than a true cereal. Wikipedia
Scientific nameChenopodium quinoa

Food Taste Comment and other Comments:
A new FAVORITE!
The fact that this is a healthier option entices my wellness goal in every meal intake. The taste of all the ingredients just blended perfectly. The subtleness of the dressing's taste was the key to experiencing the inherent savor of the natural ingredients. The salad was simply oh-so-good!

The next dishes were the STARS of the NIGHT!
The famous Chicken Wings of the house. Introducing their new flavors:
Honey Pomegranate and Spicy Garlic Parmesan.

Under the SWEET and the NON-SPICY group of flavors is the

Food Taste Comment and other Comments:
To the chili junkie, this one's definitely not for you! Expect zero hotness!
The melange of sweet and very slightly sour tastes makes this variant interesting and invites you to bite and bite more until you realize that you're crunching on the bones since the flavor did leach into the meat. "Sarap (delicious) to the bones!"

Under the HOT group of flavors of chicken wings is the

Food Taste Comment and other Comments:
I find the spiciness mild, but love that kick imparted by the garlic, cheese and spice. The sauce tingled my tongue and it tempted me to champ more.  Though I would agree with the other food bloggers' comments that the sauce had just somewhat coated the wings and did not fully seep into the meat of the chicken.

Supplement Suggestion:
Eating the two flavors alternatively together - Honey Pomegranate & Spicy Garlic Parmesan was a good combo to try.

The next dishes served were the new flavors of American artisan flatbreads:

Menu Description
Flatbread topped with yellow cheddar, mozzarella, feta and blue cheese

Food Taste Comment and other Comments:
I love cheese but this is a least favorite twist.

Menu Description
Flatbread topped with mozzarella, crispy chicken strips, jalapeños, buffalo mild and blue cheese drizzle.

Food Taste Comment and other Comments:
This was a more favorable take. The chicken strips and jalapeños are an enjoyable mix on cheesy crisps.

The next dishes were the succulent grabs from the restaurant - the Sliders!
We were served with the new variants from the Better Burgers menu:

POUTINE BURGER SLIDER (no photo taken)
and

Menu Description
Angus patty, white cheddar, sautéed mushroom, caramelized onion and pepper sauce, served with coleslaw, french fries and a cup of ketchup

Food Taste Comment and other Comments:
Another new, personal favorite!
I was immediately head-over-heels with the burger on my first bite.  Relished the juiciness of the patty and the melange of flavors exuded with greed for unending bites.

Since the marketing team mentioned to us that the LORD OF THE WINGS will be staging a "Hottest Wings Challenge", there was an urgent need for us to sample on the top 2 hottest flavors!  See the wall frame below on how the challenge is to be done.  A spectacular price awaits for the bold and daring winner:  a 2-month Open Wings meal for two!  (f.y.i. Open Wings is available on Tuesdays only).  So, hurry, visit the LORD OF THE WINGS to know more on the details of this challenge.

When the "hottest" chicken wings were served, I decided to dive in my fingers to the number one Hottest flavor: BUFFALO SUICIDE!

Hotness Experience and other Comments:
I devour on chili but this flavor was indeed closest to suicidal.  My first bite was a "cute" bite, but the hotness immediately crawled into my tongue.  When I chewed on a bigger portion, the hotness invaded my entire mouth and even reaching to my esophagus.  I endured my third, and last bite.  Enough was enough.  This flavor was true to its claim!

Hotness Rating:
Extremely insane! 99 of 100!

The piquancy and the pinching sensations in my mouth faded after few sips of iced tea and water and coupled with chitchats.

Hotness Experience and other Comments:
A few minutes later, I sampled on the SRIRACHA flavor.  Having known that the Sriracha sauce has a mild appeal on my tolerance level for hotness, my expectation was correct after my first bite.  I can indulge more of this flavor. I think, there should come another flavor in between Sriracha and Buffalo Suicide.
Hotness Rating:
Quite mild to come in second.

A meal course is never complete without the desserts. We were asked for our preferences.  I chose their New CHOCOLATE LAVA and Nihan of @craveandconfess (Instagram) selected the CARAMEL LAZY CAKE.

I did not have the chance to taste the cake, I was too engrossed with my own choice and I felt that my stomach might explode once I add a mouthful of the inviting chocolate cake.

Here's a look at the CHOCOLATE LAVA. Beautifully and creatively presented.

The oozing chocolate filling makes it too irresistible.  By the looks of it, this dessert was truly mouthwatering and yes, it was!  The yin and yang treat of hot chocolate and freezing vanilla ice cream make this duo a toothsome afters to crave for.

The interior design of the restaurant have a minimalistic approach and the availability of alfresco dining was a bonus.  Great food accompanied with entertaining shows on the TV screen and feel-good, rhythmic music hyped up the dining energy.

Our dining experience was a breeze with the hospitable and earnest service rendered by the workforce of the restaurant. I extend our gratitude to the staff  of the Lord of the Wings and marketing team of Panache Qatar for an amazing and bountiful food tasting event.

Thank you to Panache Qatar for the invitation to be a part of the food tasting of the LORD OF THE WINGS' new set of palatable courses and for allowing me to bring along my forever food buddy during the event.

The experience was a blast and my appetite was immensely repleted with delectable dishes to devour relentlessly, especially my personal favorites.
